One Night in Bhopal

This is the story of the world's worst industrial disaster.

This is one of the 12 DVDs in the acclaimed BBC series now available in a totally new format with expert training support material.

Union Carbide - one of America's most powerful corporations, opened a pesticide manufacturing plant in Bhopal, India.  Five years later in 1984, financial pressures and cost cutting decisions turned the plant into a time bomb and leaked poisonous gas that cost the lives of thousands.

The DVD highlights the issues surrounding the escape of 20 tons of deadly methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas into the atmosphere around Bhopal India, just after midnight on December 3 1984.
According to official figures, the fumes killed more than 3,500 people and affected another 800,000 people, while other estimates put the number of dead at 30,000.
'One Night in Bhopal' highlights a variety of issues surrounding failures in known, extant systems, and goes on to address issues of global enterprise and compensation problems that arise from cultural and financial exchange disparities.
The ethics of the global market place in general provides a provocative and interesting backdrop to the disaster, and it should be noted that issues associated with the Bhopal event are still being fought in courtrooms today.
